Great Ammo for Less

Ah, the eternal quest for the cheapest ammo. For those of you like me (not sponsored by any gun or ammo manufacturer), you're always on the lookout for a good deal on ammo to support your addiction, er, hobby. Well, apart from sales at walmart, one place I've found that offers consistently low prices on all types of ammo is Georgia Arms. I first found out about them at a local gun show. They're located in Georgia (duh), but they travel all over to gun shows. You can visit their site at www.georgia-arms.com to see their schedule of gun shows they will be attending as well as prices on their ammo.

Their best offering (as far as price) is their "canned heat." This is reloaded ammo offered in 500 and 1000 round military green boxes. Although they'll ship it to you via the website, it's much cheaper to buy it at a show so that you don't have to pay for [expensive] ammo shipping.

They have a great selection, and I can say that I've never had a problem with any of their ammo that I couldn't attribute to the gun I was using. I've tried out their .40 S&W, 9mm, .223, and .38 special. All of it worked flawlessly at a good price. This is great stuff for plinking and target practice.

They also sell "new" ammo (brand new brass), but it's not as good a deal. I have some of their self-defense ammo for my CCW guns, and it's actually very well priced for self-defense ammo.

Hope this will help you keeping shooting for less money. That's my goal.

Hoppe's Boresnake Review

Here's a great tool to help make cleaning your gun much faster! It's called the boresnake, by Hoppe's. It's inexpensive (about $15 from your local gun store or online retailers such as midwayusa.com) and makes cleaning your barrel much simpler. They're caliber specific, and come in pistol and rifle varieties (rifle boresnakes have a longer cord for pulling through the longer barrels).

Forget running bristles and patches through your barrel for what seems like forever. With the boresnake, you just need to put some oil on it, and pull it through a couple of times to get the barrel as clean as it's going to get. Check out the following video for my review and to see an example of how to use it.

This is my first video review, so please check it out here, but don't forget to subscribe to my channel on youtube. I plan to do more of my reviews via video as it's much faster than writing and shows you the product in action. Feel free to leave any "constructive criticism" about the video as I'm open to anything that would help me improve the usefulness to you.

Take care, and happy shooting!

Make your own sling

There are many types of tactical slings out there for your AR-15. At some point, I will do a comparison of the different kinds. However, for now, here's a link showing you how to make your own three-point sling for less than $12. Pretty ingenious, and maybe fun if you like to make your own stuff! I may give it a try sometime and let you know, but if you try it before me, let me know how you like it. Send me pictures, and I'll post them here for others to see.

Build Your Own AR-15

Brownells is one of the largest online gun stores. They have a great selection of items, but unfortunately, their prices aren't always the best. Regardless, they have come up with a pretty cool concept, and that is to help you build your own AR-15. Most likely most of us do not know enough or have enough tools to build our own AR-15. However, from what I understand, it doesn't take many tools or much know-how to get it together, especially with all of the forums and guides out there on the internet. That being said, check out www.ar15builder.com (also take note that they have some "premade guns" up at the top that can be starting points). Very cool concept and very cool site. Hope you'll check it out. Please let me know if you decide to build your own, I'd love to hear about your experience!

Another Blog

I found another blog that is great for bringing news of new guns and products. While I am focusing more on reviewing products and bringing you real world applications, this guy seems to compliment my objective nicely as he doesn't seem to review items as much as post links to news articles, etc. I hope you'll check it out. I found it to be a great blog!

Lula

For my first review, I want to discuss an absolutely *necessary* accessory if you have an AR-15. For anyone who has loaded AR-15 magazines, you know that your thumbs can get worn out very quickly! Thirty rounds with stiff springs spells disaster for a healthy thumb. Enter the "Lula." This is the best invention EVER for high capacity carbine mags.

The Lula is a lightweight polymer piece that attaches to the top of the magazine the same way the magazine locks into your gun. Once attached, it has a paddle that rocks back and forth to push down the follower, allowing you to easily drop a bullet in. Then the paddle is rocked the other way, pushing down on the newly loaded bullet, and allowing another bullet to be dropped in easily. This continues until the magazine is completely loaded. The beauty of the Lula is that it also helps to unload the gun by simply tilting the magazine down (allowing gravity to empty the magazine) and rocking the paddle back and forth. Nothing could be easier.

This is a supremely portable accessory, and is made of high quality materials (it's a standard issue to Israeli troops). It's not cheap at $25, but well worth the money! You can get it from most major online retailers (Cabelas, Midwayusa.com, etc.). Check out the following video to see an example of how this product works:

Concealed Carry

One of the topics I would like to cover more fully is that of concealed carry for firearms. The following link is an *excellent* article provided free of charge by www.usconcealedcarry.com. It is rather lengthy, but definitely worth your time if you have a concealed carry permit or are thinking about obtaining it. It has a lot of useful rules, tips, guidance, and suggestions covering a broad range of topics. Please check it out and let me know what you think.

Great song!

Check out this song. This guy is very creative (and apparently has a lot of money to have all those guns!). CAUTION: This song may contain language inappropriate for children.

Thanks to my friend hkp2000sk for letting me know about it!
